The GMC Savana is an old-school workhorse in the world of cargo vans. Safe and functional, with huge cargo capacity and several powertrain options, this is a vehicle that’s going to get the job done. The 2021 model comes with a more powerful version of its traditional V8 and is a great value if you need a sturdy commercial-grade vehicle.

GMC’s Top-Selling Cargo Van

Van shoppers like the fact that the Savana can be purchased in a wide range of powertrains and configurations. You can opt for a 276-hp 4.3-liter V-6, a 401-hp 6.6-liter V-8, or a 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel powertrain which is the most robust of the group. If you plan to haul a considerable amount of weight, the V-8 or turbo-diesel options will be your best bet. Buyers can also select an extended wheelbase version of the Savana, which provides extra cargo capacity, however, you will find that even the base configuration is extremely spacious and well laid out.

How Much Does a 2021 GMC Savana Cost?

There are six pricing options ranging from $38,495 to $40,495. The most popular seller seems to be the regular-wheelbase Cargo 3500 version ($39,695), with a 6.6-liter V-8 engine. With 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, it’s considerably more powerful than the standard 276-hp 4.3-liter V-6. The top-of-the-line LT 3500 model with an extended wheelbase, at $40,495, gets you a few extra comfort perks and some useful driver-assist features such as lane departure warning and forward collision alert.

What’s New for 2021?

GMC has swapped the Savana’s optional 6.0-liter V-8 with a new and improved 6.6-liter engine that increases the van’s maximum payload and towing capacities. The base V-6 engine has also been upgraded to allow for an increase in the Savana’s gross combined weight rating, which is now 15,000 pounds.

Bonus Options

GMC offers a terrific selection of a-la-carte options to customize your van. Note that all the features on the following menu can be added to either the LS or LT trim:

Interior Features

The Savana’s interior is highly functional with the kind of practical and spacious layout you would expect from a commercial cargo van. The interior components are durable, and the seating is ergonomic with plenty of legroom and head clearance. With the base model, buyers will get front and rear air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, a rear-view camera, and an adjustable steering wheel. You will need to bump up to the LT trim if you want small luxuries such as keyless entry, but as noted earlier, there is a long list of options that can added to any model.

Cargo Capacity

The full-size cargo versions of the Savana provide up to 286.6 cubic feet of cargo space, which is a very competitive capacity rating in the van market. GMC also offers some innovative storage and shelving solutions to maximize cargo capacity.
